E-Collage

Design Rationale

For the e-collage I was trying to incorporate as much from the song verse as possible. I combined three different images into one to create this symbolic collage. I wanted to have fun with it so I made it look almost storybook like with the glitter in the sky and the girl flying in the air. Now that I look at it when it’s done, it looks like a storybook page from Peter Pan which I thought was pretty funny.  I didn’t want the collage to be realistic in any way but very creative and out of the box. I wanted the collage to almost tell a story in a way without using the song lyrics in it. I feel like I accomplished this pretty well.  I had some trouble coming up with ideas on what I wanted to put into the collage as well as the layout out as a whole, so it took me a couple tries to figure out what went well best together. I also had difficulty deciding on where I wanted the girl to be positioned in the sky so I went with one in which made it look like she’s looking out into the city as a whole. I had never made a collage before on Photoshop so that was all very new to me. I also learned some tricks with layering that I wasn’t so comfortable with using before. I really loved how we were able to go as creative as possible with this and how there was really no limits on what we got to choose from. I am most proud of how the collage turned out as a whole and how it goes very nicely with the song lyrics. If I had more time I would of definitely added more to the collage to make it as out of the box as possible, but overall I am happy with how simple yet unique it turned out.

Font Poem

Rationale: I thought long and hard on what I wanted to do my font poem on and I knew I wanted to do song lyrics. Music has been a very big part of my life and is something that really moves me. I choose to do my lyrics on Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven because this was one of the first songs I heard when I was little and I fell in love with it. Rock and Roll music was always playing in the house growing up and Led Zeppelin is my dad’s favorite band as well so I thought this song was perfect. I choose to use these particular lyrics because they are the first lyrics of the song and I think this line is so interesting. The fonts I choose for this font poem are actually all Led Zeppelin influenced fonts. They are fonts that have been used on their previous albums, posters and so on. I think these particular fonts have a very distinct look to them and that’s why I love them so much. The three fonts are: Kashmir, Zeppelin, and Dyer. I arranged the words in the way that I did because I felt that “lady” and “gold” should be the boldest since they are what the lyric is talking about and then have the less important words like “who’s sure” smaller and less significant. I also wanted “all that glitters” to be in the middle because that it was I will use for the gif. I think the most challenging step about this assignment was what lyrics from the song I wanted to use, since there were so many choices. I am most proud of the way I arranged the lyrics and coming up with the idea to incorporate the women somehow. I traced the outline of her to make it my own and I am really happy with how it ties into the piece. If I had more time I would of maybe tried to find more fonts and play around with different ones.

REFLECTION- PORTFOLIO BLOG

For this assignment, I was trying to accomplish a decent representation of each of the editing basics. I wanted the pictures to come out the right way so it definitely took me a couple tries to get it right.  I wanted to really understand what I was doing for each step so that in the future, the steps come naturally to me.  I was definitely nervous when I first read the directions because it sounded very confusing. The challenges I encountered were definitely the first row when I was trying to figure out the steps for the correct dpi. I messed up the first time I did it, but once I got the steps explained to me again it made a lot more sense. I had to keep going back a couple times and trying again before each row was complete and made sense.  The dpi  step was the only editing trick that I had never used before.  The step where we had to change the height to 1 inch kept confusing me as well but now I will never forget to do it.  I really made sure that all the pictures looked as clear as possible, not including  the first row. The whole process of that was very new to me and I never even know how important it was. I really enjoyed playing with the edits for the last row because we got to choose what we wanted to do and have a little fun with it. I used edits that I never usually use and I also learned that there is a lot more editing tricks than I thought.  I am most proud that I accomplished each row and learned a lot in the process.  If I had more time I would of probably used different images and played around with new edits and effects than the ones that I choose.
